Short description of project
Scientific research in the Department of Telecommunications is systematically directed to research information and communication in a network environment. The following issues were particularly investigated: information flows and data traffic, the theory and application of queuing networks; models of channel, cell and packet switched networks, planning and network optimization and analysis of their performance, the dynamics of fast network, access network technologies and multi-user wireless systems ; optical and all-optical networks, high speed, broadband switching, adaptive routing and service oriented information processing, call-processing algorithms and services and the associated communication and signaling protocols; conceptual models of intelligent networks, relationship information, communication, logic and knowledge, theories and application of automata with the ability of learning, mobile and intelligent software agents, multi-agent systems, formal specification and verification, diagnosis and testing, and problems of reliability and availability of telecommunications systems and networks, analytical and simulation procedures, network simulators, software engineering for telecommunications, competitive programming and distributed processing, programming tools and workstations in the field of telecommunications and informatics, multimedia communications, networked virtual reality and virtual characters, the mobility of persons, services and terminals, security and other issues of new generation networks, information and communication services, Internet, e-business and market information and communication services, network evolution.  
Short description of the task performed by Croatian partner
Znanstveni je rad u Zavodu sustavno usmjeravan na istraživanje informacije i komunikacija u mrežnom okruženju. Pri tome su posebno istraživani sljedeći problemi: informacijski tokovi i informacijski promet, teorija i primjena mreže repova; modeli mreža s komutacijom kanala, ćelija i paketa; planiranje i optimizacija mreža te analiza njihovih performansi, dinamika brzih mreža; pristupne mrežne tehnologije i višekorisnički bežični sustavi; optičke i sve-optičke mreže; brzi prijenos, širokopojasna komutacija, adaptivno usmjeravanje i uslugama usmjerena obrada informacija; algoritmi obrade poziva i usluga te pridruženi komunikacijski i signalizacijski protokoli; koncepcijski modeli inteligentnih mreža, odnos informacije, komunikacije, logike i znanja; teorija i primjena automata sa sposobnošću učenja; pokretni i inteligentni programski agenti, više agentski sustavi; formalna specifikacija i verifikacija; dijagnostika i testiranje te problemi pouzdanosti i raspoloživosti telekomunikacijskih sustava i mreža; analitički i simulacijski postupci, mrežni simulatori; programsko inženjerstvo u telekomunikacijama, konkurentno programiranje i raspodijeljeno procesiranje; programska pomagala i radne stanice za područje telekomunikacija i informatike; više medijske komunikacije, umrežena virtualna stvarnost i virtualni likovi; pokretljivost osoba, terminala i usluga, sigurnost te druga pitanja novih generacija mreža; informacijske i komunikacijske usluge Interneta, elektroničko poslovanje i tržište informacijskih i komunikacijskih usluga; evolucija mreža.
