Short description of project
The proposal “Balkan Network of Biotechnology in Animal Reproduction” is directly addressed to the sub area “Biodiversity protection" under Call for Proposals “Research Cooperation and Networking between Austria and South Eastern Europe”. It supposes to support and consolidation of the effort of the Austrian and Balkan research centers developing the reproductive biotechnologies (artificial insemination, MOET, splitting, sexing, gamete and embryo cryopreservation), which will be applicable for the protection, restoring and sustainable production of animal genetic resources in Balkan region. The main goal of the project is: on the base of the existed bilateral collaboration to establish the Network between scientific institutions in EU and Balkan countries working in the field of reproductive biotechnologies ensured the sustainable reproduction and management of healthy animals. The Network will be formed of institutions from countries: Bulgaria, Austria, FYR Macedonia, Slovenia and Croatia. The coordination activities will be pointed to stimulation of the development and application of the reproductive biotechnologies aimed the sustainable reproduction of livestock animals, improvement and preservation of animal genetic resources and control of animal reproductive health by biotechnological restriction of diseases transmission. That supposes the exchange of information and knowledge transfer between participants in the concerned area. On the base of the obtained results will elaborate a common strategy for the sustainable development and management of the animal resources in the Balkan region. Dissemination of project results supposes to provide by organization of the I-st Conference of “Balkan Network of Biotechnology in Animal Reproduction” titled “Biotechnology in animal reproduction on the Balkans - problems and perspectives" with round table for young researchers “Assisted reproduction technologies – attractive challenge for young researchers in Balkan region”. As a part of the Conference will be final management committee meeting aimed to end the discussion and elaboration of the proposal for FP7. The most important milestones of the project will be: establishment of Balkan Network of Biotechnology in Animal Reproduction; support of young research- generation; publication of scientific results and analytical reports about problems concerned animal genetic recourses in the countriesparticipants in journal and proceeding and elaboration of the draft proposal for FP7.
Short description of the task performed by Croatian partner
The general objective is to participate in efforts for perfection of Balkan Network in relation with its successful integration to European research Area. Croatian partner will prepare on time the required scientific and financial documentation and send it to the Workpackage leader. Croatian team will collect the information in his country; participate in the e-mail discussions organized by leader concerning opportunities for creation of the regional gene bank for different endangered animal species as well. After discussions each team will collect the information in his respective country; participate in the e-mail discussions organized by leader concerning prevention of reproductive health of animals and restriction the diseases transmission by reproductive biotechnologies. Last not least, the important part of 1st Conference of “Balkan Network of Biotechnology in Animal Reproduction” titled “Biotechnology in animal reproduction on the Balkans - problems and perspectives“ is Round table for young researchers which will be organized by Croatian team leader.
