Short description of project
  The aim of this work is to develop solar irradiance and wind speed models that can predict and/or emulate the intermittent nature of these two renewable energy sources. As a part of this study, we are interested in two different time-scales: short-term models valid in the range of several minutes to fractions of an hour, and long-term models valid in the range of hours to fractions of a day. Because of the intermittent nature of renewable energy sources short-term models are necessary to determine the dynamic robustness of the system to sudden variation of the energy collected and/or the energy demanded by the loads. Long-term models are necessary during the dispatching process to determine the best mix of renewable, non-renewable energy sources and energy storage for optimal performance of the system. The models will be implemented in Simulink-Matlab.

Development of a parametric solar irradiance model that can be driven by weather forecast data. Development of a wind turbine and wind field simulation model.
