Short description of project
Preparation of a stabile catalyst that can more effectively eliminate toxic phenolic substances from industrial effluents by catalytic wet peroxidation process under mild reaction conditions (atmospheric pressure and T<353 K) would have a positive effect to the intensification of the research in connection to this environmental issue, on both local and international level. The physical, chemical and experimental methods that are to be used in obtaining this primary goal in practice include conventional as well as state-of the art techniques of catalyst preparation, modification and characterization. Special interest of the proposed research is oriented towards the production of the efficient catalyst that has optimal activity to stability performance, meaning that besides from showing good activity in the process it should also possess satisfactory mechanical, thermal and chemical stability what always was and still remains a challenge in the specific research field.
Short description of the task performed by Croatian partner
Preparation of different zeolite based catalysts with transition metal cations using classic and innovative preparation. Characterization of the prepared catalysts through state-of-the art characterization techniques in order to determine the catalysts structure, morphology, porosity, chemical composition and obtaining the surface characteristics related to their reactivity. Evaluation of their catalytic properties in the CWPO of a model (phenol aqueous solutions) and real wastewater (olive oil mill wastewater). Understanding the cause-and-effect relationship between the catalysts’ properties and their catalytic behaviour. Application of postsynthesis stabilization techniques (chemical, thermal) in case of poor stability of prepared catalysts. Design and optimization of a fixed bed reactor system for in-depth catalytic testing. Investigation of a reaction kinetics and development of a mathematical model of the reaction system for the optimal catalysts (best activity to stability ratio).
