Short description of project
The integration of biocatalysis into chemical processes is one of the three pillars (the Industrial Biotechnology pillar) of the European Platform on Sustainable Chemistry. Therefore it is not surprising that one of the fundamental strategies of Green Chemistry is to bring biocatalysis closer to the application sphere. The main objective of this COST Action is to enhance the synthetic potential of biocatalysis, specifically by promoting the "multistep" catalytic concept. This means to couple biotransformations one to another and to integrate them with chemical steps in order to increase the product purity and the yields close to quantitative values. A multidisciplinary approach is required to achieve this goal, involving precursor synthesis, enzyme screening, heterologous protein expres
