Short description of project
Overall objective: To enhance the R&D, production and exploitation of permanent magnet (PM) machine technology in Croatia through synergy of higher education institutions (HEIs) and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) for the purpose of developing energy efficient, environmentally friendly means of transport. Specific objectives: (1) To increase the capacity of HEIs for sustained provision of knowledge, innovation and expert services to SMEs in the field of PM machine design and testing for traction, marine and other industrial applications, (2) To demonstrate the advantages of PM machine technology for the purpose of raising interest in its development, production and utilization in Croatia, (3) To raise the quality of education on electrical machines at HEIs.   Estimated results: (1) HEIs: Enhanced knowledge and capability for cutting-edge research in the field of PM machine design and development with capacity for providing services and technology transfer to SMEs; Exchange of knowledge and experience among partner HEIs; Ready for education of new generation of electric machine design experts; Fully equipped for testing of alternating current (AC) electrical machines. (2) Target groups in industry: Gained insight into potentials of PM machine technology for further development and increase of competitiveness of their products, which encompasses the production of PM machines and their incorporation into transport equipment on land, sea and waterways, and other industrial products; Established firm links with HEIs for future joint research and development of PM machine technology.   Main activities: (1) Development of the specialized PM machine design software by partners, (2) Design of PM motors with joint involvement of partners and associates targeted for low-floor trams, electric cars, the propulsion of small vessels and other applications in industry, (3) Building the PM machine prototypes for proof of concept verification, (4) Procurement, installation and testing of the measurement and data acquisition equipment for upgrading the applicant’s test station for AC machines, (5) Industrial testing of the prototypes, (6) Public promotion of advantages and potentials of PM machine technology for developing more energy efficient propulsion for transport equipment and for increasing the competitiveness of the Croatian industry.
