Short description of project
The Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb recognises Plantlife International, through the IPA Secretariat as the lead organisation in the European IPA project and agrees to identify the Important Plant Areas in Croatia on behalf of Plantlife International. In doing so the national IPA partner organisation agrees to undertake the following: 1. Produce a national inventory of IPA, published inventory in the national language by October 2008 (including site accounts and maps as appropriate) 2. Ensure 5 copies of the national inventory are sent to the IPA Secretariat at the end of the project and 5 copies are sent to the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality (address will be supplied by Plantlife) 3. Enter the data on the national IPA into the European IPA database 4. Identify national IPA using the methodology detailed in the European IPA Site Selection Manual 5. Undertake at least one pilot plant conservation project on an IPA or a set of IPA involving appropriate partners. This project will address one or a number of specific conservation issues, and provide a demonstration of useful plant conservation activities 6. Report on this pilot project by providing and disseminating information on it in an appropriate format for the chosen target audience. 7. To pay for items as identified in the accompanying budget (annex 2), understanding that no further funds will be made available. 8. Provide the appropriate accounting and reporting of the grant of 38,000 Euros over three years as described in Annex 2 9. Abide by the IPA Data Sharing Agreement. 10. Appoint an IPA Country Coordinator who will be responsible for the execution and coordination of the national IPA project and who will liaise with the IPA Secretariat. 11. Form a national IPA team with representation from all appropriate stakeholders (NGOs, state conservation agencies, academic institutions and botanic gardens) to assist with the identification of IPA, this team should be led by the country coordinator. 12. Ensure all members of this team take part in a national workshop at the beginning of the project that will be funded by the IPA Secretariat. 13. Ensure full understanding and participation in the national IPA project by the Bern Convention experts in their country 14. Provide photographs of the National IPA team at work for the IPA Secretariat to use in publicising the project. 15. Assist the IPA Secretariat with the regional overview of IPA. 16. Seek to promote understanding of the importance of conserving IPA in their country through all available means.
