Short description of project
The overall aim of TRUE is to identify constraints and lock-ins that hinder the realisation of functional food and feed chains, and identify routes to transition for a range of legumes and farm networks across Europe. TRUE aims to pinpoint the role of legumes in harmonising the often-conflicting needs of the ‘environment’, ‘society’ and ‘business’, the so-called ‘three pillars of sustainability’. The challenge here is to synthesise data from the full range of actors, identify the barriers and means by which we may make the most of the opportunities to deliver multiple benefits across all three pillars. OBJECTIVES: 1.Identify, from data collected across a diversity of Farm Networks and Case Studies, key factors that demonstrate successful use of legumes in a range of production systems with related quality chains, and the historical drivers that supported the transition 2.Using a suite of advanced modelling approaches, combine data generated from Farm Case Studies into a final Decision Support Tool for primary producers, agronomists, processors, and associated businesses to determine a range of options for successful transitions that include a range of legume species to match the pedo-climatic zones and farm network types
Short description of the task performed by Croatian partner
REDEA (in Croatia) will apply methods from Task 1.1 Transdisciplinary Toolbox to facilitate farm-to-farm knowledge exchange networks that support: on-farm innovation; policy development at the regional, national and EU levels; identify suitable resilient production systems (including short food/feed chains) with legumes; and, options for on-farm processing. REDEA will be involved in implementing activities in several work packages. In WP1 - Knowledge Exchange & Communication REDEA will be the leading organiser of activities connected to creating preconditions for establishing Croatian Cluster – “road-map for profitable production”. In this work package, REDEA will also be involved in Regional Cluster meetings: individually and jointly, and to develop publications and project promotion in legume production and quality chain capacities (with WP4). This will help contribute to WP2 - Case Studies where REDEA will help develop the Systematic Review & Meta-analysis. Further, in WP7 - Social Policies & Governance, REDEA will be involved in activities regarding creation a science-policy interface, analysis of existing policies and governance solutions, development of new governance solutions and awareness raising. REDEA will also conduct Project Management activities in WP9 - Co-ordination.   TRUE project will create preconditions for the improvement of the current situation at the regional and national level. REDEA will be in the function of initiator and it will propose a non-financial support mechanism for agricultural producers, who will be proposed at the regional level for the successful introduction of legume crops in production systems.
