The application of algebraic methods in the processing of biomedical signals (electroencephalogram - EEG, ECG - EKG), primarily in the rapid detection of segments of the signal characteristic of the EEG and ECG signals.
• French researchers, the project team INRIA-ALIEN, have investigated and developed the algorithm for algebraic manipulation of signal (AAMS), which has so far been published several papers in scientific journals. They also have signed cooperation agreements with several partners from the industry and the algorithm is already successfully used in various industrial applications. French researchers have preliminary applied the algorithm to bioelectrical signals (EEG) and come up with very promising results. Preliminary results have been presented at conferences ICA2009 in Paraty (detection of action potentials by extracellular measurements) and Biomag 2010 in Dubrovnik (detection of artifacts in EEG signals caused by blinking). These research was created in cooperation with Croatian partner, using the base of bioelectric signals that for the purposes of their own research Croatian researchers recorded and stored in a signal database. French researchers do not have the equipment or the ability to conduct complex biomedical measurements necessary for research on the further development and validation algorithm. tehrefore thereis interest for cooperation with Croatian researchers and laboratory with the necessary instrumentation and the knowledge and experience in conducting biomedical measurement and processing of bioelectric signals.
• Croatian side has the ability to measure complex biomedical signals and experience in signal processing of bioelectric potentials. Researchers from Croatia will apply the algorithm to bioelectrical signals of the heart and of the brain (EKG, EEG) and, together with the French side, participate in its further development.
• After validation of the results, the possibility of implementing algorithms in commercial diagnostic devices will be presented to potential partners in the economy.
• The technological objectives are:
- development and validation of new methods for processing of bioelectric signals, especially the separation of fast segments signals.
- application of the results in the development of diagnostic tools, primarily in the area electroencephalography and electrocardiography.
Short description of the task performed by Croatian partner
Croatian partners have the ability to measure complex biomedical signals and experience in signal processing of bioelectric potentials. Researchers from Croatia will apply the developed algorithm to bioelectrical signals of the heart and of the brain (EKG, EEG) and, together with the French partners, participate in its further development.
